One band the KOMODO team is really eager to catch live next time we are around Jakarta INDONESIA is the massively danceable LIPS!! @lips.up. They deliver sounds of 1970s Punk accompanied by angry broken hearts mobs, cheap wine, and fake animal print attires, while in the style of X-Ray Spex, Buzzcocks, and The Clash. They have dropped the single “Akhir si Jahanam” (The End of the Devil) with the lesson that being a rascal or crook doesn’t pay! Yes, it all ends tragically! GAZEKATE @gazekateband are an amazing shoegaze band outta Chiang Mai, THAILAND and we have loved playing their indie/dream/surf and shoegaze on the air since 2021. These guys have somehow never got a feature on the KOMODO poster so let’s fix that!… This week we are featuring their new single “Don’t Get Yourself Dry” which reminds us all to live happily, fully and for the present - plus some older fave tracks, “Runaway” and “In My Dreams”.
Another THAI alt/shoegaze/dream band we have spun for years is Bangkok’s DEATH OF HEATHER @deathofheather__. They used to be known as ANTI PANTS (very cool name IMHO) and are long overdue to land on the weekly KOMODO poster. This week listen up for their latest single “Drained”, plus “Head In The Sand” and “Pretty Things”.
OK, let’s head south, cross the border and mosey into MALAYSIA. One of our fave pop-punkers, AN HONEST MISTAKE @ahmband has roped in Vinesh Muniandy of Trophy Knives @trophyknivesband for screaming duties on their latest drop “Goodbye, Goodnight”. We LOVE this one, with it featuring an 80’s drum machine loop, wired guitar licks and Vinesh’s trademark screams. The story of the song is kinda blunt, I’m done with you. Get out of my life. I’m leaving. So, bye. Hmmm, this all reminds us of another AN HONEST MISTAKE screamer fave, “Bad Dream” which was a collab with both PATRIOTS @patriotsmy and BRIGHT MINDER @brightminder so we have pulled that classic from last year back into the studio as well!
